Women can spend up to 50% of their lives in a menopausal state (perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause). Despite this, there is a shocking lack of awareness, understanding and acceptance about this major life change. There are more than 30 symptoms of menopause, some of which can be so severe that women are leaving the workforce at the peak of their professional careers to manage them.
At Sinai Health, we think closing the gaps in women’s health care is long overdue. That’s why Sinai Health Foundation launched an unprecedented $50-million campaign to create a world-leading Centre to address the gaps and inequities that exist in care and research related to women’s health. We want to drive a transformative shift in the way health care is delivered to women throughout their lives and address the full spectrum of health challenges they will face.
Since the campaign launched in 2022, the response from the community has been incredible, exceeding initial fundraising targets and laying the foundation to make the Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health a reality.
Thanks to this support, our team of experts are able to
– Expand clinical capacity, improving access to specialized care
– Increase knowledge and train the next generation of care providers
– Conduct practice-changing research initiatives with global impact
And we’re just getting started.
What’s Next: Our Path Forward
Once it is fully operational, the Centre will be the most comprehensive of its kind in the world. Continued donor support will allow us to build on this momentum and address key systemic factors that contribute to the gaps in care that women currently face. It will also help us expand our offerings to include supporting programs that address mental health, osteoporosis, breast disorders and cancer survivorship.
